Routes to market
Routes to market references both the traditional and very literal term ‘route to market’ - thinking back to medieval times when merchants and tradespeople would travel from one town or village to another to buy and sell their products. And over the years routes would become more popular, villages would become established along the most travelled roads and the towns hosting the markets would also grow. Many eventually absorbing the outlying villages and hamlets.
The drawing also considers the more current use of the phrase - in reference to our capitalist culture, represented by the city in all drawings in this series, of producing, marketing and selling a product or service.
The drawing is across two panels, each 420 x 297mm.
